Dodgers: Truth About Freddie Freeman, His Agent and Braves Contract Talks

Remember all the drama from the Freddie Freeman free agency decision during the Dodgers’ June trip to Atlanta?

Remember when Dodger fans were worried about Freeman’s commitment to the team, or when reports circled that Freeman would’ve accepted an offer from that Braves had he known about it?

Well good news for Dodger and really baseball fans everywhere. The reports were, in fact, just rumors. And even more so, they were confirmed to be false.

Doug Gottlieb, a Fox Sports Radio host, was the man responsible for the false claims surrounding Freeman and his agent Casey Close. Gottlieb painted the picture of a strained relationship between Close and Freeman after Freddie was rumored to have learned of a contract offer from the Braves that was never relayed to the 2020 NL MVP.

The radio personality issued a statement on Wednesday where he backtracked on his reports and apologized to Close and his agency.

“While I always strive to report accurate information, I prematurely reported on these events and simply got it wrong.”

It’s nice to know Freeman and the team can move on from this whole debacle, and turn their focus to the upcoming postseason.

  1. Seriously, we don’t know squat about what really happened and whether the rumors were true or false. All we know is that a statement was retracted in order to bring a lawsuit to an end. What we can say – at this point – is that all the handwringing about Freeman’s “real attitude” toward being in LA was pretty much a false narrative drummed up by organizations like Dodgers Nation (and you’re still drumming away obviously). Let it rest. Freeman is happy to be here and we are very happy to have him here and it doesn’t matter one bit how it got here. Move on citizens.
