Gavin Lux Believes Dodgers Have Best Overall Team in Baseball

DodgerFest provided fans an opportunity to meet and hear from some of the players. It also helped build more hype surrounding the Dodgers heading into the 2024 season.

Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux seems to have bought into some of that hype. He believes that the Dodgers have the best team in baseball.

It can be easy to dismiss a remark like this from a player because “of course, they think the team they play for is the best.” However, in this case, an argument can be made that the Dodgers do have the best team on paper.

Last year, the Dodgers ranked second in team OPS (.795) and runs scored (906). Even though they lost a very productive hitter in J.D. Martinez, the team added Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez. They will also be getting Lux back in the lineup as he returns from injury.

The Dodgers bullpen ranked third in ERA last year (3.42) and first in all of baseball in WHIP (1.17). In 2024, they will get one of their best relievers from the past few years, Blake Treinen.

J.P. Feyereisen will also make his Dodgers debut after missing 2023 with a shoulder injury. Feyereisen did not allow an earned run in 24.1 innings pitched back in 2022 before going down with an injury.

The starting rotation needed the most work as that unit ranked 20th in ERA (4.57) and seventh in WHIP (1.22). Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman addressed that position appropriately by trading for and extending starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow and signing Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Fan favorite Walker Buehler will return from his second major elbow surgery. Finally, the team added left-hander James Paxton to give the rotation even more depth.

So, yes, Lux could just be excited to make his return, play the sport he loves and be back with his teammates. He could also be making a very astute observation about how a team that won 100 games last year went out to potentially get even better.
