Kevin Kennedy Talks About the Dodgers’ Current Momentum

The Dodgers returned from a successful road trip this weekend in which they reached the .500 mark for the first time since April. They’ve gone 15-5 over their last 20 games, looking a lot like the Dodgers everyone expected before the season started.

Dodgers analyst Kevin Kennedy went on the Petros and Money show on Thursday to talk all things Dodgers. He covered a bevy of topics, from Matt Kemp to the Dodgers bullpen.

Here are some of the highlights:

Matt Kemp

Kennedy was quick to heap praise on the red-hot outfielder. He described what it was like to see Matt Kemp make his return to the Dodgers.

“When I saw him walking in [to spring training] he looked like he was ten years younger, he looked like a different guy,” Kennedy said.

He went on to reaffirm the suggestion that Matt Kemp should be the starting left fielder for the National League in this year’s all-star game. Kennedy also wasn’t afraid to throw out some early MVP speculation.

“He’s the best RBI man in baseball right now, he’s incredible,” Kennedy said.

Walker Buehler and the Dodgers Bullpen

“This guy is a true number 1, his delivery reminds of Orel Hershiser when I played with Orel in Triple-A in ’82,” Kennedy fawned. He went on to compare Walker Buehler’s pitch arsenal and demeanor on the mound to Pedro Martinez’s.

Kennedy reiterated that Dave Roberts has to protect Buehler, especially with the rest of the Dodgers’ pitching woes this season. He expressed his concerns over a potentially overworked bullpen:

“You can’t go the rest of the season with your starters being knocked out or taken out in the 4th inning, you can’t survive,” he warned.

Cody Bellinger

Petros asked Kennedy if he thought Cody Bellinger as “all the way back” from his slump.  Kennedy highlighted some of the adjustments he’s seen Bellinger make in his stance to improve his timing.

“There’s still a ways to go though…when you see him hitting better pitching [than the Pirates] that’s when I’ll say, you know what he’s made that adjustment,” Kennedy said.

The interview is interesting listening for any fan who has enjoyed Los Angeles’ current spate of success. Just follow the link in the tweet above to hear the whole thing.

Jacob Walters is a Los Angeles native and has been a Dodgers fan his entire life. He hopes to one day see the Dodgers release a bobblehead of Chan Ho Park scissor kicking Tim Belcher.

  1. Kevin Kennedy is great to listen to. I have been a fan for well over 40 years, but I always can learn something from him. I wish he broadcasted more for them.
