LADF Among Finalists for $50,000 Refurbishment Grant

Anything that concerns the wellness of our community is always worth discussing. The LADF received some great news earlier this week, as it was announced that their foundation had been selected as a finalist for a large grant. If selected, the money would go towards the refurbishment of Algin Sutton Recreational Center in South LA.

It is there that the Dodgers have established plans for their 50th Dodgers’ Dreamfield. The Dreamfield Program was started by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, with a goal to provide youth a place for positive recreational outlet. The foundation partners with large corporations and other municipalities to ensure proper care and attention to the entire Los Angeles community.

Of the nearly 350 grant applications received from over 300 different cities, LADF was selected as one of the four finalists. The selections came via a panel of MLB associated professionals. The other three nominations include Austin Park in Austin, IN; City Park Field in Kansas City, KS; and Benson Court Baseball Facility in Passaic, NJ.

The goal of winning this grant is for the LADF to partner with the City of Los Angeles in what would be a $265,000 project overall. The improvements planned out are dugout roofs, a scoreboard, a batting cage, new turf, better fencing, and better irrigation systems. Construction on the field is estimated to take around 10 to 12 weeks for completion if all goes as planned.

From now until April 30th, all four will be up for fan vote to decide on the winner. The generous grant is sponsored by Scotts Field Refurbishment program, in partnership with Major League Baseball.

Voting Ends 4/30/2018

We would encourage you to go out and vote as soon as possible! Please help Los Angeles advance and give these kids a positive place to grow.
