Dodgers Recap: Maeda’s Great Start Spoiled By Syndergaard’s Big Night At Plate

After a wild walk-off win last night, Kenta Maeda faced off against Noah Syndergaard tonight. The Dodgers looked to take two straight against the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year. The two pitchers dueled to a scoreless draw through two innings, but in the third, each gave up a solo shot.

Noah Syndergaard helped his own cause by hitting the Mets home run, and Corey Seager returned the favor in the bottom half of the third. The Mets and Dodgers traded home runs once again when Yasmani Grandal hit another solo shot for the Dodgers, and Noah Syndergaard hit his second of the night with two men on base. Syndergaard became the first pitcher to hit two home runs in one game against the Dodgers since 1958.

In the sixth, Maeda’s once promising night was completely put to bed when he put men on second and third with no outs. Maeda was pulled for Chris Hatcher, who got out of the jam by way of a pop up and two strike outs. Chris Hatcher’s outing was by far the best of his season.

But despite the bullpen getting out of a couple bases-loaded jams, they ultimately failed to score enough runs. The Mets took the game 4-3 on a night that Noah Syndergaard pitched a gem and drove in all 4 RBI’s. Tomorrow Night Clayton Kershaw will face Bartolo Colon as the Dodgers attempt to take a split in the series.
