San Francisco Giants Release Statement After Dodger Fan Dies

The Dodgers-Giants rivalry reared its ugly head this morning after it was reported that 24-year-old Jonathan Denver was stabbed and killed after getting into an altercation with other Dodger and Giants fans.

90 minutes after the final out was recorded at AT&T Park, Denver got into the altercation about four blocks from the stadium with  a friend of his. Both men were wearing Dodgers gear, with his friend brutally beaten, but it isn’t known yet whether or not Denver was killed by a Giants fan.

This isn’t the first time an incident like this has occurred as Brian Stow, a former paramedic, was attacked outside Dodger Stadium in 2011 and suffered severe brain injuries. And just last year, an arrest was made after there was an altercation in a bathroom at AT&T Park.

With details still emerging, the Giants released this statement about the incident:

We were deeply saddened to learn of last night’s horrific incident that occurred several blocks from the ballpark and resulted in the tragic death of 24-year old Jonathan Denver. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

While details are still emerging, we want to be clear that there is absolutely no place in our community for this type of senseless violence.

The Giants are working with the San Francisco Police Department to step up enforcement in and around the ballpark tonight and throughout the rest of this final home stand. We will also observe a moment of silence in memory of Mr. Denver before tonight’s game.
