Season’s Greetings: Annual Holiday Newsletter from the Dodgers

Dearest family, friends and colleagues,

We hope this holiday season finds you happy, healthy and recovered from the physical shock of our NLDS exit. Before said exit, we sure did have one fun and full year, and hope you did too. Here is just a small snippet of what we have been up to over the past year:

Accomplishments

To celebrate our 62nd year in Los Angeles, we broke a team record by winning more games than any other squad has since we moved here. While we won a record 106 games, our children continued to grow in leaps and bounds — our “baby” Cody even won himself the NL MVP Award! We’re just so proud of our boy for working so hard in the off-season to fix his swing which helped him emerge as one of baseball’s brightest young superstars. On the mound, Hyun-Jin — one of our most beloved team members — led the NL in ERA, and in our not at all biased opinion, was robbed of the Cy Young Award. Two of Hyun-Jin’s teammates, Clayton and Walker, also finished in the Top 10 in the NL with fantastic ERA’s of their won.

Kids Say The Darndest Things

“We can all sit there and play Monday morning quarterback and try to decipher what could have, should have, would have, but we’re in 2019. To be perfectly honest with you, the past is over with; we move on into 2019.” – Rich, age 38, March 15th

“I think my fat ass just finally got around him, that’s what it felt like.” — David, age 36, April 4

“We’re naaaaasty…the boys can hit!” – Alex, age 23, May 29th

“Bumgarner said ‘don’t watch the ball, run’, and I just told him if he doesn’t want me to watch the ball, go get it out of the ocean.” — Max, age 29, June 9th

“I mean, I’m just trying to play a game. So I don’t think I should have to worry about who’s going to come on the field and whatnot. .?.?. I think it could be dangerous. I know it’s innocent right now, but it could be dangerous.” — Cody, age 24, June 25th

“It’s a good clubhouse in general. Everybody makes young guys feel comfortable, like they belong here.” – Matt, age 26, July 22nd

“I think every kid’s dream is to get that call if you play baseball. A lot of time and hard work has gone into it. I think surreal is the best word for it.” – Gavin, age 22, September 3rd

Places Visited

Besides our annual visits to the other National League ballparks, this year we had the pleasure of traveling to the homes of some the AL East teams, with stops at St. Petersburg’s Tropicana Field in May, Boston’s Fenway Park just after the All-Star Break, and Baltimore’s Camden Yards, where we celebrated our 7th consecutive NL West division win on September 11.

On-Field Highlights

There were so many shining moments on the field this year, including an awe-inspiring, amazing 10 walk-off wins.

Goals for 2020

After having accomplished so much over the last seven seasons, we are united in a singular goal: Get rings for our boys. We hope to see you all at the end of October in Los Angeles for one giant group celebration!
