Seth Lugo News: Dodgers Free Agent Target is Heading to the Padres

Another one bites the dust for the Boys in Blue. According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the San Diego Padres have signed right-hander Seth Lugo.

According to MLB.com, Lugo agreed to a two-year contract worth $15 million. The team has not announced it because his physical is pending.

Lugo, 33, was on the Dodgers’ radar this offseason, but like many other players, they decided to sign elsewhere.

Last season with the Mets, he went 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 62 games, and 65 innings pitched.

The Padres seem to be snagging anything and everything that comes their way and keeping the Dodgers out signing anyone.

San Diego seems to be the aggressor while L.A. is sitting back and watching from afar.

Baseball columnist Joel Sherman reported that Lugo would head into spring training as a starter, but that could all change depending on the circumstance.

San Diego had a fantastic playoff run and will look to carry that momentum into the 2023 season.
They may be a “small market team,” but they sure aren’t paying like one.

More often than not, Lugo will be coming into the game with an excellent surmountable lead, thanks to San Diego’s amazing rotation. Seth will headline the bullpen alongside Robert Suarez and Josh Hader if San Diego decides to have his relief.

The Padres will be a team to watch this season and compete for the N.L. West.

  1. I’ve lived in San Diego after growing up in L.A, County. San Diegans HATE L.A., so signing Lugo instead of the Dodgers surely has Padres fans dancing in the aisles of Petco Park. Another swing and miss by the Dodgers front office.
