Dodgers 3rd Base Coach Chris Woodward Interviews with Texas Rangers

Chris Woodward has been the familiar face down at third base for the Los Angeles Dodgers for three seasons. He’s the guy you see slapping hands with one of the stars after they hit a big home run. On Thursday, he was granted an interview with the Texas Rangers for their open managerial position.

The Rangers began their search for a new manager a month ago after they let go Jeff Bannister. Woodward is believed to be one of at least 11 candidates for the position.

Obviously, it would be nice to return as many coaches and players as you can to a team that has tallied back-to-back World Series appearances. On the other hand, it’s a testament to the strength that the Dodgers have within the coaching staff for people like Woodward to be getting prominent interviews.

Woodward’s resume reads strong. While his only managerial experience was with New Zealand during the 2017 World Baseball Classic – he played a dozen years in the big leagues. He was the Seattle Mariners Minor League infield coordinator in 2013 before becoming their infield coach in 2014. From there, Woodward moved onto the Dodgers in his current role.

Woodward interviewed for the New York Yankees managerial position last season which eventually went to current manager Aaron Boone.

Still, here’s to hoping that Woodward remains down at the third base coach post for the boys in blue. No one slaps fives with the Dodgers’ sluggers like the guy wearing number 45 in Dodger blue.

On J.T. Realmuto to the Dodgers
