Upgraded Lights Officially Installed at Dodger Stadium Ahead of 2023 Season

At Dodgers Fan Fest this year, team President and CEO Stan Kasten made two big announcements. Understandably, one shined brighter than the other — ironically.

The greater announcement was that the Dodgers would be retiring Fernando Valenzuela’s No. 34 jersey this season. That ceremony is going to be held over the weekend of August 11-13, in what’s sure to be an incredible few days for the entire Dodgers organization and their fans.

However, that wasn’t the lone announcement of the day.

Before that big announcement, Kasten also announced that Dodger Stadium was getting new lights. I know, exciting!

It’s the type of thing that doesn’t sound as exciting until you see it, but good news, the lights are officially done and they’ll be debuted this season. The lights will for sure be debuted when the regular season opens on March 30, but since they’re already ready, I’m assuming they’ll be debuted before that on March 26, when the team comes back to Los Angeles for the annual freeway series against the Los Angeles Angels to close out spring training.

The new lights are replacing the team’s old system, which was installed in 2008. They will not only be able to better highlight the action on the field, they’ll also be able to do custom light shows, which are sure to wow the Dodger Stadium crowd. The Dodgers switched to all LED lights, which will not only shine brighter, but also use 50 percent less power.

The team also said that the new lights will make the game look better on television, so you don’t need to be at the stadium to enjoy the upgrade.
