Win of The Year? Dodgers Knock Off Diamondbacks 3-2 In Thriller

A game that featured all the high drama of a Hollywood script. I’ll go as far as call it the stuff that legends and dreams are made. The Dodgers looked left for dead until the bottom of the seventh inning. With panic rampant on social media; the Dodgers responded with one of the biggest wins you’ll see in a regular season game.

In the type of baseball game that gives you chills, the Dodgers prevailed against all odds to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2. Here’s how it happened.

The Offense

The Dodgers mustered just four hits off Zack Greinke through 6 and 2/3 innings when Kiké Hernandez pinch hit for Hyun-Jin Ryu. Next, Mr. Hernandez then hits one of the biggest home runs of his life.

That tied the score at two a piece and nothing was settled, but a huge dagger was brought by Kiké. However, the hysteria was not done there; not by a long shot. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo sent Greinke back out to pitch in the bottom of the eighth.

With that, Justin Turner provided one of the largest moments in the story of the 2018 Dodgers.

What a crush job, what a moment. Please forgive me, I’m still a bit emotional after all that. Nevertheless, the Dodgers’ offense battled with their backs against the wall all night until the bitter end. These are the moments and the games that define a group.

The Pitching

Sure, Ryu allowed a first inning home run to Paul Goldschmidt to fall down early 2-0. Still, for Ryu’s entire outing it felt like the Diamondbacks didn’t do quite enough to put away the home team. Ryu went seven innings without walking a batter, allowing just two hits past the first inning. Dylan Floro became the pitcher of record with a scoreless eighth. And then there was Kenley Jansen to get three in the bottom of the ninth.

Looking like the Kenley of old – Jansen came on and fired a scoreless inning for his 33rd save. It wasn’t without drama, as Goldschmidt blooped a double down the right field line. However, Jansen found something deep within him and struck out David Peralta and got Eduardo Escobar to ground out for the win.

What’s Next

What’s next? We celebrate! That’s what.
