The Dodgers Avoid the Worst Case with Mookie Betts’ Foot Injury
Mookie Betts was out of Friday’s lineup after fouling a ball off his left foot late in the game in Thursday’s win in Miami. He left loanDepot Park in Miami on crutches and underwent x-rays, which came back negative. The Dodgers sent the seven time All-Star for additional testing on Friday.
Thankfully, those also came back negative.
The right fielder / second baseman underwent an MRI and CT scan in Washington that revealed a bone bruise but nothing was damaged or broken. Betts said he is still feeling sore and is expected to miss the series against the Nationals out of an abundance of caution.
With the Dodgers holding a commanding 13 game lead in the NL West, Dave Roberts can afford to play without Mookie Betts in the leadoff spot in the lineup. On Friday, Chris Taylor batted in the top spot in the order and reached base three times. Today, David Peralta draws the assignment against the right-handed pitcher.
Betts is hitting .314 with 38 home runs, 99 RBI, and a 1.020 OPS in 133 games this season. He’s not expected to land on the injured list.
