There’s Still a Chance Freddie Freeman Doesn’t Play in Dodgers vs Padres NLDS Game 5

As of now, Freddie Freeman is in the lineup, playing first base, and batting third for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their win-or-go-home Game 5 against the San Diego Padres.

However, like in Game 4, there’s a chance that Freeman is scratched before first pitch.

“Right now he’s in there. I feel good about him in there,” Roberts said. “If he doesn’t go, then we’ll adjust.”

Roberts said Freeman will go through his pregame work, and then will get the official green light to play in Game 5.

In Game 4, Freeman said his being in the lineup was a bit of “gamesmanship,” as the team knew he wouldn’t be playing at breakfast that day. This time around, though, it sounds like Freeman has a real shot at playing. The team, however, won’t know for sure until his pregame routine is over.

As of now, here’s the Dodgers’ Game 5 lineup:

  1. Shohei Ohtani, DH
  2. Mookie Betts, RF
  3. Freddie Freeman, 1B
  4. Teoscar Hernández, LF
  5. Max Muncy, 3B
  6. Will Smith, C
  7. Kiké Hernández, CF
  8. Gavin Lux, 2B
  9. Tommy Edman, SS

If Freeman ends up being scratched, Max Muncy will move to first base, Kiké Hernández will move to third base, and one of Chris Taylor or Andy Pages will take over in center field.
