Tommy Edman Won’t Return to Dodgers as Quickly as Expected
Los Angeles Dodgers star Tommy Edman won’t be returning from the injured list once he’s eligible to be activated, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Roberts specifically said Edman’s return this weekend is “unlikely” and the utility man’s right ankle is “just not responding” as quickly as the team had hoped.
The Dodgers skipper has changed his tune surrounding Edman’s status, given just a few days earlier Roberts said he did not expect the utility man to miss much time.
“Tommy ran [Friday] and just still didn’t feel great, still some soreness in his ankle,” Roberts said. “Didn’t feel he could play tonight or even tomorrow, potentially. So just the backdate, knowing that it’s potentially 10 days to make sure he gets it right. We just felt that it was an easier decision.”
Edman is hitting .252 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs this season. He’s accrued a 1.1 bWAR and ranks in the 96th percentile in Outs Above Average.
The 29-year-old began the season as one of the hottest hitters in the L.A. lineup, and his absence is certainly a setback for the team.
The injury woes have not ceased for the Dodgers, a team that is missing several key pieces of their lineup and pitching staff. Teoscar Hernandez recently landed on the IL with a Grade 1 abductor strain.
Evan Phillips was placed on the IL with right forearm discomfort on Wednesday, becoming the 13th pitcher on the IL for L.A. Nevertheless, the defending champions have the best record in baseball at 25-12.
