Struggling at the plate and looking to break out, Los Angeles Dodgers’ shortstop Hanley Ramirez stepped in the box with two runners on against San Diego Padres’ starter Tyson Ross. He would end the slump with a two-run double down the left field line to give the team a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Ramirez had yet to make an impact on the series and wasted no time in the rubber match between the two National League West teams. Ramirez’s double was followed by an Adrian Gonzalez RBI single to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.
The hit was the first for the slugging shortstop in the series and the RBI were also the first for Ramirez this season. He will be counted on to be a force in the middle of the lineup and was considered by many to be an MVP candidate.
