Dodgers News: Walker Buehler Takes Huge Step in Recovery
On Tuesday, all eyes were on Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani and his first spring training game donning the Dodger blue.
Although the attention was on Ohtani, and deservedly so, another Dodger accomplished a significant milestone on Tuesday on the backfields.
Right-handed starting pitcher Walker Buehler threw his first live batting practice of spring in Dodgers camp. Here are videos, courtesy of Jack Harris of the LA Times and Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
The Dodgers are not rushing back the 29-year-old after he underwent his second Tommy John surgery in June of 2022.
They want to make sure he’s back to being himself in October, so they prefer he miss the start of the season as he continues to build himself back up.
The two-time All-Star is not expected to pitch in the Cactus League and will miss the start of the regular season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts isn’t giving an exact timeline for Buehler’s return, but it’s a great sign he’s throwing against live batters.
It seems like Buehler could return at some point in May, assuming all goes well in his continued recovery.
