Will the Dodgers Trade for Nolan Arenado? ESPN Insider Reveals Answer From Source

Trading for eight-time All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado is not at the top of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ to-do list.

Arenado seemed interested in joining the Dodgers after making an Instagram post with the song “dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar. Arenado has not played in a postseason since 2022, so it makes sense that he is open to uniting with the reigning World Series champions.

But, ESPN’s Buster Olney squashed any hope that Arenado would play with Los Angeles in 2025. In an interview with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, Olney revealed that the Dodgers likelydo not want to trade for Arenado.

“He has been on a platter for teams to make a trade for months,” Olney said on Dodgers Dougout Live.

“And I asked about the Dodgers about six weeks ago. And to protect the source I have to sort of phrase it this way. I was told: ‘If the Dodgers wanted him, they would have gotten him.’

“It’s not like it’s been a secret that he’s been available, and to this point, it doesn’t look like he’s at the top of their list in terms of an interesting player.”

The St. Louis Cardinals are eager to trade Arenado this offseason. The delay in the trade has prevented the front office from adding new talent to the roster.

Arenado has three years and $74 million remaining on his contract. The 10-time Gold Glove award winner also has a no-trade clause, which he reportedly exercised against a trade to the Houston Astros in December.

Negotiating a deal that will satisfy Arenado may be difficult. The Southern California native reportedly had a wish list of six teams he would be willing to join earlier in the offseason.

According to that report, Arenado was open to joining the Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, and Boston Red Sox. Based on this list, it seems he is interested in joining a postseason-caliber team, or a team that is close to home.

  1. Cards are going to have to eat at least half of the money remaining on his contract to facilitate a trade. I think that is what is holding things up. I don’t think the Cards want to eat that much money.

  2. As a former progessional baseball player, I believe FAT MAX MUNCY is NOT the answer at 3rd base, especially if Mookie Betts is the starting Dodgers’ shortstop. Muncy is not the defensive genius Nolan Arenado is at that position. Arenado is an 8 time All Star, and would surely, much more than Muncy, defensively solidify the left side of the Dodgers’ infield. He is stll quick, agile, nimble, and has the ‘soft hands’ and ability to cover toppers, balls down the line, and in the hole, producing ‘outs,’ which will be a valued asset to Dodger pitchers. Last year, Mookie showed he had problems fielding balls deep in the hole, and making a strong accurate throw to 1st. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE my words about what Arenado can bring. Yes, LA has great pitching, and a solid All Star offense, but Arenado will bring ‘lock down’ left side defense, and I believe a regenerated offense, and will be a key piece that will make LA a VERY difficult team to beat! LA can make this happen, and Nolan wats to come home! SIGN HIM!
