The Los Angeles Dodgers seem more and more likely to add one of baseball’s top pitchers to their already-dominant starting pitching rotation.
The Detroit Tigers are shopping two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal as the two sides have made no progress towards signing an extension. Skubal’s contract is set to expire after the 2026 season, and if Detroit has no intentions of keeping him around afterwards, they could land a massive haul by dealing the ace ahead of the season.

The Dodgers have been frequently mentioned as a team that could make a move for Skubal given their clear desire to go all-in on the 2026 season with one of if not the most loaded rosters in baseball.
Landing Skubal would mean the Dodgers would have to part with a plethora of talented players, perhaps including both starting pitchers Emmet Sheehan and Tyler Glasnow. However, the Dodgers have the luxury to engage in trade talks for one of baseball’s best players because of their wealth of talent at starting pitcher.

“We have never sat here in December with the kind of pitching depth that we have right now,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain. “With that said, we’ll never be flippant about it. We’ve got a lot of really talented arms. Guys that other teams are really interested in. How that plays out, I’m not sure yet. Like anything else, it has to line up and make sense for both sides, and that’s tricky.”
With a starting rotation of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Glasnow, with any of Roki Sasaki, Emmet Sheehan, Gavin Stone or River Ryan set to take the fifth spot, the Dodgers have a wealth of talent at the starting pitching position. While depth is not something the Dodgers would easily part with, if sending a few of their starters away meant acquiring Skubal, Friedman and the Dodgers front office might have a tough time during down that offer.

One year of Skubal worth Sheehan, Glasnow and many others? Uh, nah. Focus on the outfield and utility players.
