Bobby Miller Throws Live BP For Dodgers, Almost Gets Hit With Comebacker Again

The Los Angeles Dodgers followed a dominant offseason with an efficient spring training showing off their newest pieces, young phenoms, and October heroes returning to MLB action.

Unfortunately, this didn’t come without a frightening moment for fans and players.

During the Dodgers’ first Cactus League game, up-and-coming star pitcher Bobby Miller was drilled in the head by a 105.5 mph line drive just 11 pitches into his first spring training start.

As he faced live hitters for the first time since taking a comebacker to the head, recent history almost repeated itself. Throwing the equivalent of one inning, Max Muncy unintentionally hit a line drive back to the mound, but this time Miller was able to drop to the ground in time and avoid contact.

Pitching coach Mark Prior spoke on what it was like to see Miller almost get drilled by another line drive to his head.

“He seemed fine after the fact,” Prior said. “We’ve all, unfortunately, been there. If you haven’t, you’re gonna. Like all pitchers, we’ve been there. And it’s part of the game. You never want to see it, but you kind of got to get back on the horse and do it. And the sooner you get that first one out of the way, kind of get going. But I mean, it’s never easy.”

Prior’s mindset is the unfortunate truth of being a major league pitcher, and one that Miller has now faced twice this spring. As for the actual performance from Miller, he touched 99 mph during that simulated inning, per Prior.

Miller has been met with an unclear path back to the mound at Dodger Stadium since his nightmarish 2024 season. With all the confidence in the world and a mindset that he will once again get back to his elevated level of play, Miller can get to a place where he is throwing quality innings for the Dodgers once again.
