Could Dodgers Move Teoscar Hernandez If They Land Kyle Tucker? Insider Explains

The Los Angeles Dodgers could have one more move up their sleeve before the start of the 2026 season.

The Dodgers will look to complete the sport’s first three-peat in a quarter-century and have tremendous odds to do just that. While that is the case, the Dodgers have an apparent weakness in their hands: the outfield.

The Dodgers’ outfield is a major weakness, which is why an upgrade appears imminent. The Dodgers have been linked to many of the top available free agents on the market, but none may be bigger than four-time All-Star Kyle Tucker.

Tucker would be a big get for the Dodgers, as he would be a major upgrade. However, if the Dodgers were to land Tucker this winter, is there a chance they could move off one of their worst defenders, Teoscar Hernandez?

MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today appeared on Dodgers Dougout Live with our very own Doug McKain. When Nightengale was asked about Hernandez and his future with the Dodgers, the longtime insider says that he thinks Hernandez will remain in LA, but the potential addition of Tucker could shake things up.

“I do. But if they sign a guy like Tucker, you know, then it says, wait a minute now, do we have too many outfielders? We can move him. Uh, so I think something like that would say let’s free up some money, you know, that sort of thing. So I think they’ll certainly listen and ask teams, hey, who’s willing to give up what for him? But he makes a lot of money too. So he doesn’t have that value that uh, people think. So, my my gut is that he stays put. You know, I’m sure they they dangle him during the winter and just weren’t getting those offers. And pretty much, not they’re trying to save money, but it would, you know, take a big chunk off the payroll and you give it to the new outfielder.”

Hernandez has been a pillar of the Dodgers over the past two seasons; however, he ranked among the worst outfielders in baseball by advanced metrics such as Outs Above Average and Defensive Runs Saved.

Hernandez’s defense is a liability, which is part of the reason why there were some rumors of a potential trade this winter. However, that has died down, and the likelihood of them moving on from the 33-year-old is low.

Even with Hernandez on the team, the Dodgers have strong odds to land Tucker.

  1. Not much of an insight and doesn’t sound like an insider. He’s just sitting there speculating . Another wasted few minutes.
