The Los Angeles Dodgers did not win two championships in a row by accident.
The perfect mix of elite talent, qualified coaching, energetic fans, and a front office that will stop at nothing to get the best possible product on the diamond are the most likely culprits of LA’s success, but manager Dave Roberts brought up a severely overlooked facet to the Dodgers’ organization: the farm system.

“Yeah, I think that people just overlook the fact that every year we probably have the top-5 farm system in baseball,” Roberts said. “This year I think we probably have the No. 1 or No. 2. We pick at the bottom of the draft every year, towards the bottom, and we still have young guys, whether by way of trade or development, that continue to help contribute.
“So on the business side, I think that we do a great job of marketing our organization. So it’s pretty buttoned up. I think we have great people and obviously great ownership too.”
The Dodgers possess tons of home grown talent and seemingly each season is filled with the excitement of who’s up next on the road to major league stardom. From Clayton Kershaw making his long awaited debut in 2008, to rookie Dalton Rushing getting his first MLB swings in this past May, the Dodgers seem to have no shortage of talent in the farm.
Although watching players rise through the ranks is part of the many joys of the game, the Dodgers also deal top prospects in order to make trades for more star power on the team.
As much as the Dodgers are known for spending on their MLB payroll, they recently invested over $100 million in their Single-A affiliate in Ontario. Perhaps the next wave of talent from the farm system will continue to prove Roberts’ point and benefit from the new facility.
