The New York Post’s Jon Heyman revealed the details of newly-signed Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz on Monday.
The Dodgers signed Diaz to a three-year, $69 million contract Dec. 9.
Heyman reports Diaz received a $9 million signing bonus, and is set to make $14 million in 2026, with $4.5 million deferred.
He will earn $23 million in both 2027 and 2028, with $4.5 million deferred in each year. The Dodgers also hold a conditional $6.5 million club option for the 2029 season. If the Dodgers pick the option up, Diaz will earn $750,000 for finishing both 45 and 50 games, and will earn $1 million for finishing 55 games in 2029.

Diaz has finished 45 or more games in six of his nine seasons, as well as 50 or more in three of those years.
ESPN’s Alden González reported the Dodgers can trigger the club option if Diaz misses a certain amount of time on the injured list.

The Dodgers have already named Diaz as their closer, and for good reason. The right-hander has been among baseball’s best since his debut in 2016, and had a 1.63 ERA season through 62 appearances in 2025. He has 20 or more saves in all but two of his MLB seasons, the exceptions being his rookie year and the shortened 2020 season.
“I mean, for us it’s just we have a high bar to name someone the closer,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. “You have to be one of the best, you have to be elite and dominant at what you do. Sugar is that.”

LA will hope Diaz can continue to post All-Star numbers in Dodger blue as they pursue a third consecutive World Series title, a feat which hasn’t been achieved since the New York Yankees completed a three-peat in 2000.
