The Los Angeles Dodgers have finished all 84 of their games this season in nine innings, which is just 14 games short of the MLB record.
The Boston Red Sox are the current holders of the record, as they played 98 consecutive games without reaching extra innings during the 2005 season. Other notable streaks since 1901 include the 2002 Chicago White Sox at 69 games and the 2023 Colorado Rockies at 67 games.
The Dodgers are currently the only team in the league who are yet to play an extra-innings game so far this season. LA’s previous record in this category came in 1899, when they played 76 games without reaching extras. Their current streak of 84 games is also the longest in National League history.
Last season, the Dodgers wasted no time in playing their first extra-innings game, as the Detroit Tigers took them beyond the ninth inning in the fourth game of the season. Over the course of the regular season, they played a total of 15 extra-inning games.
The longest streak the Dodgers put together last season lasted 27 games, which happened on two separate occasions.

When Did the Dodgers Last Play an Extra-Innings Game?
The Dodgers played three extra-innings games last postseason, with the most recent one obviously being a dramatic Game 7 win against the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. During that game the Dodgers saw plenty of heroics, from dramatic home runs to slick defensive plays.
Their longest game of the postseason also came against the Blues Jays less than a week prior, as they played 18 innings at Dodger Stadium before a Freddie Freeman walk-off home run sent everyone home.
The first extra-innings game of their postseason came against the Philadelphia Phillies, when a throwing error from Phillies reliever Orion Kettering put an end to the game.
While this streak won’t be something the Dodgers are actively looking to extend, they still have a shot at making history and are sure to keep putting away games in a healthy manner rather than dragging things into a coin toss in extra innings. Their next shot to extend their streak comes against the Athletics on the road beginning Monday at 6:40 p.m. PT.
