Dodgers’ Dave Roberts on Potentially Losing Teoscar Hernandez: ‘It Would Be Tough’
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts addressed the media on Monday at the Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas.
Among the many topics Roberts discussed was free agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández, who is currently drawing interest from the Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays in free agency, as Dodgers Nation reported Sunday.
While Hernández is currently a free agent, Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain asked Roberts how difficult it would be to potentially lose and have to replace the All-Star outfielder next season.
“It’d be tough,” Roberts said. “Obviously I’m a huge fan of Teo. … It would be hard for me to not see him coming back.”
Hernández signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers last offseason hoping to re-establish his value on the free agent market. He did that and more, clubbing a career-high 33 home runs with 99 runs batted in and an OPS of .840.
Hernández came in clutch numerous times throughout the year, including in the postseason, when he hit three home runs and had an OPS of .769. He also was great in the clubhouse and locker room, always bringing the energy and good vibes.
Hernández became a fan favorite in a very short amount of time, and made his intentions clear throughout the year that he wanted to return to Los Angeles.
“My hopes are really high,” Hernández said of re-signing. “Like I’ve said before, the Dodgers are the priority obviously. I’m going to do everything in my power to come back.”
Hernández also got emotional at the World Series parade while addressing the L.A. fans.
“That’s how much I care, how much I appreciate everything that this organization, these fans have given to me,” Hernández said. “When I show that kind of emotion, that’s when I truly feel it. I’ve been blessed to be here. … Thank you for making me a World Champion.”
