Dodgers: DBacks Continue to Live in Fear That Someone Will Have Fun at Chase Field

Hey, Arizona Diamondbacks! We think Rachel Green said it best on Friends a long, long time ago:

Nine years ago, the Dodgers clinched the NL West at Chase Field, and when they found out the DBacks really didn’t want them to celebrate by jumping in the pool behind the fence in right-center field, those impetuous rascals did just that.

Since that day, the entire Arizona organization has lived in constant fear that something like that might happen again. When the Dodgers swept the DBacks out of the playoffs in 2017, Arizona called in the Royal Phoenix Mounted Police or something to protect the sanctity of the Forbidden Pool.

On Tuesday night, the Dodgers were once again at Dodger Stadium East to celebrate a clinching moment, locking down the NL West in just their 141st game of the season. This is an older, wiser, more mature group, and they were never going to jump in the pool.

But just in case, the DBacks were ready.

No horses this time, but at least five fully uniformed, on-duty police officers tasked with protecting the pool from any and all potential revelers.

The funny thing is, considering that these officers live in the Phoenix area, statistically there’s a 53 percent chance they’re Dodger fans (and 38 percent chance they’re Cubs fans). But they did their duty and stood guard against a threat that never came, a threat that was never going to come.

The 2022 Dodgers aren’t a “jump in your pool to celebrate” type of team. They just win. Over and over, almost every night. They can celebrate that just fine with champagne in the locker room.
