Dodgers Discussing Three Players With White Sox Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline: Report

The MLB trade deadline is less than one week away. The Dodgers are on a time crunch to find a dominant starting pitcher and an impact outfield bat.

The Chicago White Sox have players who fit both descriptions. The franchise has the worst record, 27-77, of any MLB team. This makes them clear sellers heading into Tuesday’s deadline.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Dodgers have engaged the White Sox on three players in particular:

The Dodgers have made inquiries with several teams about outfielders, starting pitchers and relievers. They’ve had discussions with the White Sox about several of their players, including Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert Jr. and Tommy Pham, and those talks are expected to continue throughout the month.

All three players would fill holes in the Dodgers’ lineup for the postseason. The likelihood of Los Angeles acquiring all three players is low and would come at a high price.

This season, Crochet has a 3.07 ERA with 157 strikeouts and 25 walks in 21 appearances. He ranks sixth in WHIP (0.97) and second across the Major Leagues in strikeouts, only two strikeouts behind Padres’ Dylan Cease. Another attractive factor about Crochet is he offers two more years of team control.

His main downfall involves his vulnerability to injury. The southpaw has thrown a career-high 111.1 innings this season, nearly double his previous career-high of 65 innings reached as a college sophomore. But, this factor may lead to a cheaper asking price for Crochet.

In addition to Crochet, outfielders Robert Jr. and Pham would add impactful bats to the Dodgers lineup.

Robert Jr. was placed on the injured list with a right hip flexor strain in April. Since making his return on June 4, the 2023 American League All-Star slashes .229/.309/.471 with a .780 OPS and 115 wRC+. He also has a 33.7% strikeout rate and 10.3% walk rate.

Pham, who joined the White Sox in April, quickly found himself on the injured list. The veteran endured a left ankle sprain that sidelined him until June 14. Now, Pham is back at the plate batting .246/.333/.352 with a 20.3% strikeout rate and 11.6% walk rate.

The Dodgers have until Tuesday’s deadline to acquire a major league player from outside their organization.

  1. THE DODGERS ARE THE CLASSIC BASEBALL BRIDESMAID. THEY WIN MORE THAN THEY LOSE WHEN CHAMPIONSHIPS AREN’T AT STAKE, AND LOSE MORE THAN THEY WIN WHEN CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE AT STAKE. IT’S WHAT WE’VE SAID BEFORE ABOUT THE DODGERS BASEBALL FRONT OFFICE STAFF. THEY SIMPLY ARE NOT BASEBALL PURISTS WHO HAVE PLAYED THE GAME, KNOW ALL FACETS OF THE GAME INSIDE AND OUT, AND HAVE EATEN, SLEPT, DREAMED, PLAYED, AND LIVED BASEBALL ALL THEIR LIVES! ANDREW FRIEDMAN & STAN KASTEN ARE EXCELLENT EXECUTIVES FROM A BUSINESS/FINANCIAL SENSE, BUT ARE NOT FROM AN INNATE GAME OF BASEBALL SENSE. THEIR NEW GM, BRANDON GOMES, IS A QUESTION MARK REGARDING WHAT HE’S RESPONSIBLE FOR, AND WE BELIEVE DAVE ROBERTS IS IN OVER HIS HEAD, YEARLY MISMANAGING DODGERS’ TEAMS WITH GOOD ENOUGH TALENT TO WIN WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS. AS WE WRITE THIS ARTICLE, LA IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES THIS YEAR. THEY FAILED TO ADD STARTING PITCHING, EXCEPT FOR IFFY TYLER GLASNOW, AND MISSED ON GETTING A STRONG STATER, DYLAN CEASE. THERE’S DEAD WOOD-TAYLOR, KIKE HERNANDEZ, MUNCY; INEXPERIENCE-PAGES, VARGAS, AND INJURIES-BETTS, BUEHLER, MAY, GONSOLIN, SHEEHAN, WITH OVER RATED PIECES LIKE BOBBY MILLER. THIS TEAM IS PRESENTLY A PATCHWORK OF PLAYERS, WITH LITTLE CHEMISTRY THAT’S NEEDED TO BE IN SYNC TO WIN WORLD SERIES TITLES.
IN OUR NEXT ARTICLE WELL GIVE EXAMPLES OF WHY THE DODGERS’ FRONT OFFICE & ON FIELD MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO GO, REPLACED BY NEW VOICES! ONE OF THE EXAMPLES WAS THE UNFORGIVABLE MOVE MADE BY THE FRIEDMAN/KASTEN CREW ALLOWING COREY SEAGER TO LEAVE!
