Dodgers Engaged in Talks With AL Central Squad For Star Pitcher: Report

It’s not a secret that the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to add starting pitching at the trade deadline. The rotation has been decimated with injuries and return dates for some are yet to be determined.

The Dodgers have reportedly been having discussions with the Chicago White Sox about breakthrough starter Garrett Crochet but because the deadline is so unpredictable, they have reportedly also contacted the Detroit Tigers inquiring about Tarik Skubal.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Sunday that the Detroit Tigers are “engaged” in talks with the Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles on Skubal. However, Nightengale notes that a deal for Skubal may be unlikely.

“It’s a longshot that Skubal will be traded, but the Tigers are listening, and have told teams they will move him only if they are overwhelmed by an offer.”

If Detroit manager A.J. Hinch has his opinion heard by his front office, the Tigers won’t move Skubal. Hinch sent a very simple but firm message when he was asked about the Skubal rumors during an interview with a local Detroit radio station on Friday.

“I want to buy.”

Entering Sunday, the Tigers are 49-50 and sit five games back of the final American League Wild Card spot. They are by no means out of it and if they buy, they could claw their way into the postseason.

The 27-year-old ace pitcher still has two years left on his contract following the 2024 season. He has compiled a 10-3 record to go along with a 2.41 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP, a 6.7 K/BB ratio, and 116.0 innings pitched across 19 starts.

While the lefty would be a great addition to a right-handed heavy rotation in Los Angeles, it isn’t likely that the Tigers will move him and if they do, it would be a mistake on their end.
