Their countless signings, re-signings, and acquisitions have furthered the gap between the team sitting on top of the baseball world, and everyone else.

With spring training in full swing, Los Angeles is now looking back to a grim reality that plagued them during the 2024 title chase: injuries.

Specifically the pitching roster, but really all over the team, the injury bug got to the Dodgers last season.

Overcoming the broken arms, a ruptured esophagus, the Tommy John recoveries, and a laundry list of other ailments, L.A. showed their depth as well as their resilience on the way to their eighth World Series title.

After some unfortunate pitching news last week regarding their relief arms, one of the most consistent pitchers from 2024 gave an extremely promising update to Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain at spring training.

Evan Phillips was one of the only constants for the Dodgers bullpen last year, leading the team in saves and stepping up when the team needed him most. After a shoulder injury kept him off the mound for the World Series, he has been working to be back stronger in 2025.

“Physically, right now, I feel 100 percent,” Phillips said. “Now it’s just about building up, starting my bullpen progression, and trying to get as close to game ready as possible.”

Although it is unclear if Phillips will start the year on the injured list or not, it is extremely promising for Dodgers fans to hear how great the right-hander is feeling after his first real bullpen session of spring training.

In 2024, Phillips made 61 appearances with an ERA of 3.62 over his 54.2 innings. The aforementioned 18 saves to lead the team were crucial, along with his 63 strikeouts and 17 walks.

His postseason play was unreal in the NLDS and NLCS before it was cut short due to injury. He pitched 6.2 innings over five appearances with six strikeouts, three walks, and no runs allowed.
