Dodgers Facing Backlash Over $75 Shohei Ohtani Cup

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a successful opening day, selling out Dodger Stadium, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks to start the season 1-0, and scoring eight runs with only two allowed.

However, there was one blip in a seemingly perfect night for the defending champion — the concession stands were offering a $75 cup that had drawn fans’ ire.

The “limited edition souvenir cup” was styled to look like Shohei Ohtani’s jersey, with a front and back that have what appear to be buttons, the signature baseball player’s belt, and a tucked-in shirt, along with his name and number on the other side of the cup.

The purchase of the cup included unlimited same-day refills. The sales tax was not included, however, meaning the total was $82, according to TikTok influencer Christian Guevara.

On social media, baseball fans had their say about the cup’s price, with most calling it overpriced.

“shohei better have filled up that cup up himself & hold it for me as i drink it for that price,” _Kaylashoemarker said.

“That can not possibly say $75 for a cup,” @BaseballWRLD_ wrote on X.

“How else are they going to pay the 2 billion dollars in contracts they have for players besides price gouging Californians,” Trevor40878381 added.

“Can you defer payments over the next 20 years?,” BartWinklerShow said.

“If the cup included free refills for life on soda, it might actually be worth it. But it only comes with three refills the day of purchase. Ridiculous,” @emeEses posted.

“Does it have an Ohtani red ink auto or something?” another user added.

“50 cents cost for cup, 5 cents for soda. $74 profit for Dodgers. So worth it!” @TayoMello wrote.

Shohei Ohtani’s Opening Day

While the cup did not make fans happy, Ohtani delivered on the field in exciting fashion. He walked out to his walkout song from 2025, “Feeling Good,” while going 1-for-3 with a walk drawn via a hit by a pitch.

He made hard contact and looks to be more than ready for the season, which should see him keep hitting with the best, while delivering ace-like production on the mound.
