Dodgers Fans Could Gain 30 lbs per Season, Study Says

With the regular season gearing up, Los Angeles Dodgers fans should be wary about overindulging on gameday snacks, according to one study.

Nick Crain of The Lines noted that in a survey of 3,000 baseball fans across the country, Dodgers fans are among those who eat the most extra calories on game day.

In fact, the Dodgers came in fourth in Major League Baseball, with an extra calorie intake of 1,140 per game.

Over the course of the season, that could lead to significant weight gain, perhaps as much as 29.2 pounds, according to The Lines.

Maybe think twice before getting another Dodger Dog.

What About the Other Southern California Fanbase?

Interestingly, Los Angeles Angels fans were the least likely to grab a snack.

The Lines estimates their extra calories per game at 340, a full 800 less than Dodgers fans.

Over the entire season, that would only be an increase of 6.6 pounds.

What Other Fanbases Enjoy Peanuts and Cracker Jacks at a Ball Game?

Interestingly, it seems the Angels might be the outlier for Southern California fanbases.

Fans of the San Diego Padres actually eat even more than Dodgers fans do, at least in total.

The Padres fans were credited with eating an extra 1,015 calories per game, which is 125 less than Dodgers fans.

Padres fans, however, report watching slightly more games per week on average than Dodgers fans, at 4.1 games to 3.5 games.

The number of games watched equates to an additional 31.1 pounds per season, according to the study.

Fans of the New York Mets and Yankees also enjoy a treat at the ball park, with the two teams listed right next to the Boys in Blue with 28.9 pounds and 26.6 pounds for the Mets and Yankees, respectively.

No one comes close to the top spot, though.

Texas Rangers fans consume an additional 1,265 calories per game on average, a figure that’s more than 100 calories more than any other fanbase.

Over the course of the season, that ultimately could translate to an additional 35.7 pounds for the average Rangers fan, the study found.
