Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided general return timelines for Blake Snell and Tommy Edman, who are yet to play in 2026.
Roberts said the Dodgers hope to have both players back towards the end of May, per The California Post’s Jack Harris.
Both Snell and Edman spent extended periods of time on the injured list in 2025, and are dealing with lingering injuries. Snell’s arm felt the effects of the Dodgers’ long season last year, and said he felt fatigue following the World Series. He has resumed baseball activities, but a return is further off than they initially thought.
“You want to ramp up, but I gotta take my time and get healthy,” Snell said in January.
“I feel like I’m doing the right thing. I feel good. I’ve been throwing. It feels better. In the postseason, I gave everything I had for that. But on the front end of spring, I’ll have to be patient and let my body get to 100%.”
Snell is a two-time Cy Young winner, and had a great year for the Dodgers when he was healthy. He started 11 games, posting a 2.35 ERA through 61.1 innings pitched.
Edman had two separate stints on the injured list last season, dealing with an issue in his ankle throughout the regular season and into the postseason. He underwent surgery on his ankle following the World Series.
Usually a flexible player, Edman had to play second base exclusively following his second return from the IL.

Who Will Replace Snell and Edman for the Time Being?
While both of the Dodgers’ stars are huge misses, LA has reinforced their depth to ensure they won’t miss the duo too much.
Roberts announced the starting rotation to begin the year Sunday, listing Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Emmet Sheehan, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki as starters, with Justin Wrobleski available as well. As for Edman, the Dodgers made their final roster decision of the spring Sunday and have decided on platooning Alex Freeland with Miguel Rojas.
Santiago Espinal is also available to play second if needed, but will mostly be used as a corner infielder, per Harris.
