Dodgers’ Jack Flaherty Could Wind Up in AL East in Free Agency
Jack Flaherty’s future in Los Angeles isn’t with the Dodgers at this point. There simply isn’t room for him in the rotation.
However, there is room for him in the American League East.

According to a recent report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, “Flaherty is one fallback option for the Orioles if, as expected, they fail to re-sign Corbin Burnes. The Red Sox also can not be ruled out for Flaherty. They liked him last offseason, only to see him sign with the Detroit Tigers, a league source said.”
Flaherty isn’t a stranger to Baltimore after the Orioles acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals at the 2023 trade deadline. It didn’t go as well as they hoped, and when the results were disappointing, it wasn’t a total surprise.
Flaherty entered the Orioles’ rotation with significant workload concerns, having logged just 154.2 innings over the past three seasons due to injuries. By the time he joined Baltimore, he had already pitched 109.2 innings that season. He ended up posting a 6.75 ERA across 34.2 innings.
It isn’t shocking to see the Red Sox potentially in the mix for Flaherty. They are tired of losing and have been in on just about every big-name free agent this winter. While they lost out on Juan Soto and Max Fried, they did trade for Garrett Crochet, acquiring him from the Chicago White Sox.
If Boston can sign Flaherty, its rotation will be frontloaded with Crochet, Flaherty, and Tanner Houck, which will compete with the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, and Orioles.
Beyond the Orioles and Red Sox, several teams have shown interest in Jack Flaherty this offseason. The Mets could use him to strengthen their rotation alongside Kodai Senga, while the Cubs, active in the pitching market after acquiring Matthew Boyd, are monitoring his price.
The Tigers also appear interested in a potential reunion, though their willingness to compete financially is unclear, especially after signing veteran Alex Cobb. Flaherty’s market remains dynamic as teams assess their remaining budgets and pitching needs.
