Dodgers’ Kyle Hurt to Undergo Season-Ending Tommy John Surgery: Sources

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt is set to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, Dodgers Nation has learned. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30 in Los Angeles.

Hurt, 26, was placed on the injured list on April 20 with right shoulder inflammation after making three relief appearances this season. He was activated off the injured list and optioned to Triple-A in June. However, two weeks later, Hurt was placed back on the seven-day injured list, and shortly thereafter, was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Now, he’s set to undergo season-ending surgery next week to repair a torn UCL.

Hurt made a name for himself in his MLB debut in 2023 when he pitched two scoreless innings against the San Diego Padres. He retired Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, and Manny Machado in order on nine pitches in the eighth inning. Then, he struck out the side in the ninth inning.

Hurt made the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster in the bullpen this season and was sharp in his first three appearances, allowing just one earned run across 6.2 innings of work for a 1.35 ERA. However, he’s now set to miss the rest of this season and likely most of the 2025 season.

The team has not announced the procedure or a timetable for return. However, traditional Tommy John surgeries come with a 12-18 month timeline for recovery.
