The Los Angeles Dodgers have only made one big move in free agency this offseason, signing All-Star closer Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million deal at the beginning of December, but the New York Post’s Jon Heyman listed them as one of free agency’s winners halfway through the offseason.
The Dodgers struggled in the bullpen last season, especially during the final month of the season. They had the sixth-worst bullpen ERA in MLB during September, with their mark of 4.90 only finishing better than the Washington Nationals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels.

Diaz’s addition is sure to benefit the Dodgers, which explains Heyman’s selection.
“Baseball’s best, most star-studded team surprised itself by stealing baseball’s best closer (Díaz), thus shoring up its one weakness,” Heyman wrote.
Diaz has been one of MLB’s best relievers since breaking onto the scene in 2016, and will be a huge part of the Dodgers bullpen while he is in LA.

He posted a 1.63 ERA through 62 appearances in 2025, making his third All-Star appearance. He struck out 98 batters last season through 66.1 innings pitched, and recorded 28 saves in 31 opportunities. He had had 20 or more saves in all but two of his MLB seasons, the exceptions being his rookie year and the shortened 2020 season.
The Dodgers still have time to improve on their offseason, and with several big names still available in both the trade market and free agency, they could do just that before the beginning of the 2026 regular season.
What Else Can the Dodgers Look for This Offseason?
As far as their needs go, the defending World Series champions don’t have many needs as far as their roster goes, with the only clear weakness being in the outfield following their failed experiment with Michael Conforto last season.

The Dodgers still have plenty of internal options in left, such as deadline day acquisition Alex Call or Triple-A outfielder Ryan Ward, but would keep themselves firmly in the driver’s seat if they made a high-end acquisition by the end of the offseason.
