The Los Angeles Dodgers lost Game 5 of the World Series to the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-1, on Wednesday evening. They now trail the series 3-2 as they head to Toronto for Game 6 (and a potential Game 7).
World Series Game 5 Recap
Starting pitcher Blake Snell allowed a solo home run to Davis Schneider on the first pitch of Game 5 of the World Series. Two pitches later, he allowed another dinger to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. With two home runs across his first three pitches, there were few worse ways the night could have started.

Snell and Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage then exchanged zeroes until the bottom of the third inning, when Kiké Hernández once again proved why he has the reputation of coming alive when the lights shine brightest. The utility star slugged a home run 407 feet to left field to cut the deficit to 2-1.
In the top of the fourth, a leadoff triple from Daulton Varsho on a misplay from Teoscar Hernandez got things started for Toronto, and a sacrifice fly to center scored him. After a walk, Snell struck out the next two batters to get out of the top half of the frame.
Yesavage tallied his ninth and 10th strikeouts of the game during the bottom of the fifth, becoming the first rookie pitcher to toss 10 strikeouts in the World Series since Dodgers legend Don Newcombe did so in 1949. Yesavage tied the World Series record of 11 strikeouts for a rookie during the bottom of the sixth. He would break the record with his 12th strikeout an inning later.

The top of the seventh is where things started to unravel for LA.
The Blue Jays got a single, ground out, walk, wild pitch, and finally a strikeout from Blake Snell as his night would end after pitch No. 116. Edgardo Henriquez came in and allowed a wild pitch and RBI single to relinquish another two runs. After walking Alejandro Kirk, Anthony Banda came in to record the final out of the inning.
In the top of the eighth, Banda allowed a single and wild pitch. After a ground out got the runner to third, all it took was another single for the deficit to grow to 6-1.
The Dodgers offense, as it had all night, was silent over the final innings of the game.

One of the biggest chokes in sports history about to happen. Robert’s will unfortunately not be assigned any blame or responsibility for allowing the greatest team ever assembled to turn into little leaguers!! Nice work, LA!
Dave Roberts isn the guy trying to hit thr ball over the fence every pitch.
Dodgers need to think about a new hitting coach and a change in their approach at the plate.
Well, I predicted LA wouldn’t even make the world series this year. I just don’t see how we win 2 games in Toronto with zero offense. We are probably batting 200 or less in this series. Even if Yamamoto wins game 6, I don’t see Glasnow winning game 7. We struck out 15 times in game 5. We had 4 lousy hits. This team is done. See you next year. We have been totally outclassed by Toronto. Just disappointed we have No Offense at all.
Opinions, everyone has one!
When do Dodgers play better? When they are on the road.
My suggestion is No Family in Toronto.
The Mind of Players for Dodgers must be free from as many distractions as possible. Limit media exposure and Negativity. Block access to media on game days until after games are complete! No media in locker rooms, dugouts!
If you have to talk let the manager do the talking only.
Dodgers can regroup and Win in Toronto.
Seven games is still on the table.
Go Dodgers
Get rid of Roberts
Get rid of Roberts!
Get rid of Treinen!
The Toronto Blue Jays scored more runs within the first two batters of the game than the Dodgers did with 30 at-bats in the next 9 innings. Embarrassing to say the least. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team flail at the plate and swing at more pitches in the dirt! Tommy Edmon looks lost at the plate and not sure why he was not hitting from the left side of the plate against a right handed pitcher. Says a lot about his confidence right now. The Dodgers mustered 4 hits, 2 of which actually left the infield… Things look pretty bleak for the Bums in Blue. Yamamoto is basically going to have to pitch a perfect game 6 for them to have a chance to win. Glasnow does not exactly inspire much confidence if there is a game seven. Maybe start Shohei instead…? You have to blame Friedman for his terrible off season free agent signings and his trade deadline moves. Conforto ($17 million down the drain), Scott (10 blown saves) and Yates have not played at all in the post season. Brock Stewart pitched 2 innings and went on the IL. Alex Call?…well Alex Call can’t seem to get the bat off his shoulder.
The offense didn’t just disappear in game 5. It’s been gone since the 7th inning of game 3 with 4 runs in something like their last 29 innings. Pathetic and disappointing. Their anemic play from July and August, when they were 10 games under .500 for about 60 games has magically reappeared at the worst possible time. Roberts did absolutely nothing to get them out of the funk then, so he has no answers now. Not to diminish Toronto as they’re playing great at the right time…polar opposites.
Many Congratulations to the Toronto Fluke Jays.
Such a poor showing! Where is the hunger to win? They must dig deep and find it. There was no offense and no support for Snell. Their weaknesses were most certainly exposed these last two games. If you haven’t been able to correct it during the regular season, how do you correct it now?
Having a DH playing RF will bite you in the ass.
The Dodgers need to change their approach to hitting next year. They need a new hitting coach. Dipping their right shoulders to get the perfect launch angle is causing them to hit weak ground ball and pop ups and warning track fly ballsNo one seems to go with the pitch and hit the other way. In short, everyone is trying to hit home runs instead of base hits.
I’m glad someone is finally agreeing with me on what I’ve been harping for a longtime since the days of Bellinger and CT3 where they screwed them up and couldn’t fix it. The Von Scoyoc philosophy of launch is now screwing up the whole team. It’s a home run or bust idea witch can work with mediocre pitching, but pitchers with elite stuff especially you see in the postseason, the results are usually weak ground balls, slicing popups, or strikeouts.
They got schooled on how to hit to score runs by a bunch of overachievers and underpaid no-names. The Dodgers must get back to basics to squaring the ball up the middle going gap to gap, get guys on base, create traffic and put stress on the pitcher. But I guess it’s too late because this is the MO that have been ingrained in their philosophy for so long. The Dodgers do need to take a hard look in their offensive plans to win multiple World Series. They have the starting pitching, bullpen will bounce back from injuries, but need to also shore up the defense in both the outfield and infield.
Roberts showed his true colors by not bringing in Kershaw at the end of the game. Should have let the Dodgers fans see him one last time in LA and show their appreciation for one of the greatest pitchers of all time.
I have disagreed with Roberts on many Occasions. However, the Dodgers BREAK-DOWN is NOT his FAULT or his MISMANAGEMENT. Mookie has reverted to his Original Slump of this Season. Muncy has hardly done anything offensively. Ohtani has been HOT, but ALSO COLD. Will Smith is not hitting much. Teo is good some Days, but NOT CONSISTENT. I think that the Dodgers have just RUN out of STEAM offensively. It is like a TOTAL TEAM SLUMP!! Yes, the Blue Jays have had Good Pitching. However, their Pitchers are NOT so EXCEPTIONAL. But the lack of Dodger Hitting has made them appear EXCEPTIONAL. Even if Yoshi pitches a Spectacular Game on Friday, you need RUNS to win Ball Games. They need a MIRACLE!!!
