Dodgers Make Change After Shohei Ohtani Cup Controversy

The Los Angeles Dodgers have shifted course after facing backlash over the price and value of their Shohei Ohtani souvenir cup.

On Opening Day, the cup went viral for its price: $75, plus taxes, bringing the total to $82. At the time, there were only unlimited refills for the day of purchase.

However, the Dodgers have pivoted in response to fans voicing their opinions, lowering the price to $68.99, with sales tax bringing it over $70. It includes refills all season long, per Arash Markazi.

The cup features a special design that resembles Shohei Ohtani’s jersey. There are nice touches like buttons, his belt, along with the name and his number as well.

For Ohtani fans, a cup with a detailed representation of his jersey was already worth the money, but most fans were upset by the price, given how expensive it is to attend a game at the stadium, with all the parking, high ticket prices, and expensive food.

With the price change and unlimited refills, fans are starting to change their tune about the cup.

“Now that’s actually a deal if you go to enough games,” one X user said.

“That Cup went from a scam to possibly the biggest steal if you go to more than 10 games,” another said.

“And it’s limited edition? Total bargain,” a third added.

“That is a very smart adjustment by the Dodgers. I have no idea what they were thinking before or maybe it was just incorrect advertising,” a fourth chimed in.

“Okay, at first I thought this was dumb, but with more details… SEASON LONG refills makes this an absolute bargain if you regularly attend games,” another wrote.

Shohei Ohtani’s hot start

Ohtani has started the season off well, reaching base four times out of his first nine at-bats. He has only one hit, a hard shit single, but he has done a good job generating hard contact.

He is swinging the bat well overall, and the hits, along with a ton of home runs, should end up coming soon for the Japanese star.

Ohtani will be making his first start as a pitcher on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians, starting what he hopes to be a Cy Young campaign.
