Dodgers Make NLDS Roster Change, Add Pitcher to Replaced Injured Michael Grove

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a change to their NLDS roster.

Right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius has been added to the postseason roster, replacing right-handed pitcher Michael Grove, who apparently got injured in his Game 2 appearance.

Major League Baseball approved the roster substitution, meaning Grove will now be out for the remainder of the NLDS and the NLCS, if the Dodgers advance.

Grove made a brief appearance in Game 2, allowing a home run to Xander Bogaerts and striking out Jake Cronenworth. It’s unclear what his injury was, but he will now be out for the foreseeable future for L.A.

As for Casparius, he debuted for the Dodgers at the end of August. He made three appearances for L.A. this regular season, sporting a 2.16 ERA across 8.1 innings of work. He had 12 strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs.

The Dodgers now have extra rested depth in their bullpen ahead of a crucial Game 3. The Dodgers could end up needing both Games 3 and 4 to be somewhat of bullpen games considering Walker Buehler and Landon Knack are the scheduled bulk starters for the games.

First pitch for Tuesday night’s Game 3 is 6:08 p.m. PT.
