Dodgers’ Michael Kopech Would Love to Return to Starting Pitching One Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best pitching rosters in MLB.

With so many talented arms going down with injuries last season, L.A. somehow made it through all the shortcomings and lifted the franchise’s eighth World Series trophy. As fans have the joy of watching many of these names work back to being full form in spring training, one of the team’s most solid relief pitchers discussed a potential return to the starting rotation.

Michael Kopech was acquired at the perfect time last season. In a package that also included NLCS MVP Tommy Edman, the two instantly provided a midseason spark to the Dodgers that would carry L.A. through October.

Kopech dazzled on the mound in his 24 appearances in a Dodgers uniform. He threw 29 strikeouts to only 10 walks which was good for a 1.13 ERA in Los Angeles.

Kopech also provided six saves upon his arrival which proved to be extremely helpful without a clear cut closer in L.A.

He recently spoke to Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain about his current role and discussed another way that he could potentially impact the team: as a starting pitcher.

“I’m super comfortable in the role I am in now and if this is where my career unfolds, as a reliever, then I’m fine with that. If an opportunity come to start, and I feel like I have the endurance and stamina and health and everything to do that, I would love to entertain that because starting is where I feel like pitchers have the most control over their game.

“I love both aspects of it but truly I just love pitching.”

Kopech has 60 career starts, but has established himself as a bullpen threat this season.

Whether it is from the bullpen or the starting rotation, Kopech looks to continue his top-tier performance on the mound in 2025.
