Dodgers’ Mookie Betts ‘Absolutely’ Wants to Play in 2028 Olympics

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar shortstop Mookie Betts said that he wants to play in the 2028 Summer Olympics in L.A.

Betts spoke to the media on Tuesday and revealed that if he gets the chance to play in the 2028 L.A. Games, he will jump at it.

“Absolutely, absolutely,” Betts said. “I would have done the WBC had it — wouldn’t for bad timing of having a child. But, um, kids are always a blessing, so. But yeah, if I get the opportunity to—to play in the—in the—the Olympics.”

The only thing missing for the 33-year-old superstar is an Olympic gold medal. Betts has done it all in his baseball career, but a gold medal would certainly take his status as an all-time great to another level.

Although a potential Olympic appearance would be the first of his career, it wouldn’t be Betts’ first time representing his country. The four-time MLB champion did so three years ago for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Betts was among the top players on his country’s team at the time. This season, that will not be the case as he opted out of the chance to play for Team USA due to the anticipated birth of his third child.

The last time Betts represented his county, he was phenomenal. He was a key outfielder for the team, where he recorded a .313 batting average with 10 hits, one RBI, one double and four runs scored in 32 at-bats and seven games.

Can Mookie Betts Bounce Back After a Down Season?

Betts played a prominent role for Team USA, and he is expected to do the same in L.A. as one of their best players. The six-time Silver Slugger had a down season in 2025, recording a career low .258 batting average.

This season, there should be some load taken off his plate thanks to the addition of Kyle Tucker. Although that is the case, there are still some heavy expectations on Betts as he is set to remain at the top of the lineup this season.

Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts said he expects Betts to bat No. 3 in the order of the loaded L.A. lineup.
