Dodgers Option Catcher Ahead of Opening Series vs Cubs
The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned catcher Hunter Feduccia Saturday. The 27-year-old is still with the team in Japan, and will be available as part of the travel roster.

Feduccia is eligible to play in the Dodgers’ exhibition game against the Hanshin Tigers at the Tokyo Dome. The backup catcher played a big role in Cactus League this spring, playing in 13 of 19 total games. Feduccia started in six of those games.
This spring, Feduccia slashed .292/.346/.542. and was 7-for-24 with three doubles and a home run. He batted .313 with a homer and seven RBIs in his first 16 Cactus League at-bats
The latest move by the Dodgers comes as no surprise given Will Smith and Austin Barnes are the team’s primary backstops. Although, there have been times where the Dodgers have turned to Feduccia in lieu of injuries to Smith and Barnes.
Feduccia made his Major League debut in 2024 after Barnes broke his toe. The catcher had an .838 OPS at Triple A in 2023 and an .837 OPS at Triple A the following season.
The Dodgers have no shortage of talent, and that is especially true at catcher. Smith and Barnes dominate the big leagues. But beyond Feduccia, Dodgers top prospect Dalton Rushing is also waiting in line.
With so much backstop talent, it’ll be interesting to see what the Dodgers decide to do in the case of Feduccia.
