Dodgers Option Reliever To Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned reliever Michael Petersen to Triple-A Oklahoma City for the second time this month. Petersen was last called up to the majors on July 9, and pitched in three games since.

Overall this season, Petersen has appeared in nine games for the Dodgers, posting a 3-0 record with a 4.50 ERA and eight strikeouts. He made his MLB debut this season, appearing in his first game on June 18. He last pitched in Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers, recording two outs.

The last time Petersen was sent down to Triple-A came after a disastrous two innings in which he allowed four earned runs in a 12-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Petersen returns to Triple-A, where he has spent the majority of the 2024 season. He has appeared in 23 games with Oklahoma City, giving up four earned runs for a 1.61 ERA.

Before the 2024 campaign, Petersen played in the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies’ minor league systems before signing a minor league contract with the Dodgers in January.

The Dodgers will make a corresponding move prior to his return from the All-Star Break on Friday, when they take on the Boston Red Sox.

The move could be activating Joe Kelly, who had been on the 60-day injured list since May 6 due to a posterior shoulder strain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Kelly would rejoin the team after the All-Star Break. He has completed two rehabilitation assignments for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, and appears to be on pace for a return by this weekend.

  1. What is up with Kelly? He has spent a lot of time on the IL. Along Graterol, Buehler, May, and the list goes on and on and on with the pitching staff and every game players and bench. Seems like a huge amount of wasted effort when there are so many young players ready to be promoted.

  2. Replace Ramírez immediately. How many blown chances and games lost by this pitcher. Has no command of his pitches and can’t be trusted in any situations, especially in a playoff. Not a very smart pitcher with no idea where his throws goes. He has choked almost every time he appears.

Had enough of Robert’s so called “pet project”. Should be used in only a blow out game if anything.
