Dodgers Plan to be Cautious With 2 Key Position Groups in 2026

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be careful in managing their veteran hitters’ and pitching staffs’ workloads in the 2026 season, per the California Post’s Jack Harris.

The Dodgers may have won the 2025 World Series in a gritty, seven-game contest against the Toronto Blue Jays, but their road there was far from pretty. L.A. lost a majority of their pitching staff at some point regular season due to injury, and faced several injury crises elsewhere on the diamond as well.

“But difficulties will present themselves, nonetheless, in ways that will force the Dodgers to be strategic with their roster management (the club is planning to be even more cautious than usual with pitchers’ workloads, and work in more off-days for their veteran hitters) and push through the daily mental grind of a 162-game marathon,” Harris wrote.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also commented on the matter, citing the mental toll the last two seasons have taken on the Dodgers.

“I think the most taxing part of it, even with the pitchers, is the mind, the emotions,” Roberts said. “If you look at even last year, you could see that the intensity wasn’t there all year. It’s just hard to manufacture that, certainly coming off two world championships.

How Will the Dodgers Manage Their Team’s Workload?

Luckily for Los Angeles, they are one of the deepest teams in MLB.

They have more than enough depth in their starting rotation with River Ryan and Gavin Stone set to return from their season-long injuries in the upcoming season, and have done well to reinforce their bullpen in the offseason with the addition of yet another All-Star in Edwin Diaz.

They’ve also made sure to add to their infield depth after August 2025’s injury bug left them digging into the farm for answers, bringing back Miguel Rojas and signing Andy Ibanez, and even have Dalton Rushing to back up Freddie Freeman at first base if need be.

As far as the outfield goes, Ryan Ward and Alex Call are both available if any of Andy Pages, Kyle Tucker or Teoscar Hernandez need rest.

The Dodgers have plenty of options heading into the 2026 season and will be sure to utilize them as they chase down the first three-peat in franchise history.
