Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani a ‘One of a Kind’ Athlete, Says Fanatics CEO

No one compares to Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani in Major League Baseball, according to Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin.

On the 6-1-1 Podcast, hosted by former Phillies teammates Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard, Rubin explained why he thinks Ohtani is a global superstar.

“When I see the numbers he’s doing, what he’s doing for the business,” Rubin says, “I mean, he is truly a unicorn. He is one of a kind.”

In his first year with the Dodgers, Ohtani had one of the best offensive performances in the history of the sport. Ohtani unanimously won the National League Most Valuable Player and became the first exclusive designated hitter to win the award.

He is also the first player in MLB history to unanimously win three MVPs. Ohtani made more history by opening the 50 home run, 50 stolen bases club, finishing the season with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases.

Ohtani’s performance proved why he was worth every penny of the $700 million deal the Dodgers signed him to.

Ahead of the Dodgers’ trip to Japan, Tyler Glasnow tried to describe the popularity of Ohtani overseas.

“Ohtani is like Justin Bieber times 10 over there, so it’s probably gonna be insane,” Glasnow said.

Glasnow was right as the Dodgers could not escape Ohtani in Tokyo as he dominated billboards everywhere.

“We work with 5,000 athletes individually at Fanatics,” Rubin said “Just about every sport, every team globally. He’s one of a kind.”
