Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani admits that he didn’t know about the football, Super Bowl hype until he came to the States.
In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Othani said that he realizes how big an event the Super Bowl is to American audiences.
“Yeah, honestly, so I don’t follow football at all,” Ohtani said. ” When I was living in Japan, and they were doing the Super Bowl, I had no idea what the Super Bowl was. I didn’t follow any of the teams, so coming over here. Then I see the excitement that surrounds the Super Bowl, and I think it’s really, really cool, especially as that sports culture in the United States, where it’s like, it’s like, it’s like a national holiday. Basically, when people come and watch the Super Bowl. So, I don’t have an answer for you about who I’m picking, but I just think the event itself is awesome to watch, like the Super Bowl.”
When asked if he is going to watch the game, Ohtani said he won’t watch it in its entirety.
“Yeah, and I don’t think I’ll watch the game in full, in its entirety, but I think I will be checking in on seeing, like, how the game is going on, for sure.”

American football is not as popular in Japan as it is in the USA. However, it is a growing sport and well-established in Japan. Baseball is the dominant sport in the country, which helped procure Ohtani; however, football is well on its way up.
