The Los Angeles Dodgers went back and forth with one of the stronger teams in the American League on paper, but they fell short against the Seattle Mariners.
The Dodgers were in a real slugfest, with leads changing all the time.
Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff home run, followed by a home run from Cal Raleigh, and from there on, the offense just kept on coming.
Dodgers allowed too many home runs
Justin Wrobleski took the mound and had one of his worst nights of the season. He went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, including four home runs.
He did get seven strikeouts, but his aggressive approach was punished tonight, and the risks of his style were on full display.
After Wrobleski, Brock Stewart had a strong inning in the seventh, but he ran into trouble in the 8th inning.
The Dodgers called up the usually reliable Alex Vesia, but he gave up a two-run blast. Vesia eventually got out of the jam, and Dreyer had a clean ninth inning.
A very bad mistake
The offense for the Dodgers put up six runs and produced 13 hits. They left some runs on the table, going 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position, but they created enough overall.
It was a baserunning mistake that really cost them. The Dodgers had a runner on second and third with one out, then Shohei Ohtani hit an RBI single.
However, the man on second, Kyle Tucker, held up at third base when he looked to have ample time to score, and he was waved by third base coach Dino Ebel.
Additionally, in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ohtani was at third base with no outs with the Dodgers down 7-6, but Andy Pages, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts all failed to cash him in.
Pages had a three-pitch strikeout for the first out, the most costly at-bat.
This loss is such a standout result, since the Dodgers tend to excel in these areas, but on Tuesday they were not firing on all cylinders.

No team will want his salary unless we gave away some very good players. If Tucker doesn’t improve, there’s not much the Dodgers can do but let him go and eat his contract.
