Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow Expected to Be Ready for Spring Training

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow is expected to be ready for spring training, according to general manager Brandon Gomes.

Glasnow’s first year in a Dodgers uniform didn’t transpire as many thought it would. The Dodgers spent millions in acquiring the right-hander ahead of the 2024 season and he was poised to lead the starting rotation in October.

However, an injury saga unfolded for Glasnow in the final stretch of the regular season. The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 16. The move seemed like a precaution by the Dodgers, given Glasnow was their ace and they wanted him to be healthy for the postseason. But as time ran out for Glasnow to return for the postseason, it was evident that his elbow tendinitis had unfurled into a nightmare for the Dodgers.

Glasnow, 30, posted a 3.49 ERA and a 9-6 record in his first season with the Dodgers. He threw a career-high 168 strikeouts through 134 innings. It was exactly the type of performance the Dodgers had hoped for when they traded for him and spent $136.5 million on an extension in Dec. 2023.

In the end, Glasnow was sidelined by a sprained elbow for the final month of the regular season and the playoffs. Even without their ace, manager Dave Roberts remained confident in the players he had. His comments in early September foreshadowed what was to come.

“I’m still confident,” Roberts said at the time. “I don’t think there’s one way to win a championship. I think you can look back at the teams recently and how their staffs came together and who stepped up for each team’s staff. So we’re going to have the guys we have, and I feel confident in whoever we run out there.”

Although Glasnow couldn’t help the Dodgers in their postseason run to the World Series, he is poised to be in full form by Opening Day if all goes according to plan.
