Dodgers Were Interested in Randy Arozarena Before Mariners Trade: Report

The Dodgers have expressed their dire need for an additional arm in their starting rotation, which they will seek out at the deadline. But, a dominant starting pitcher is not all Los Angeles is looking for. The franchise is on a quest for an impact bat in the outfield, according to MLB.com.

Two outfield trade targets have held the Dodgers’ interest. One of them, Randy Arozarena, was traded to the Seattle Mariners late Thursday.

Arozarena has struggled at the plate this season. His batting performance over the last two months is what the Dodgers need heading into the postseason. Arozarena slashed .158/.257/.312 going into June. From June to now, the former All-Star has improved his slash line to .290/.402/.517. He tallied 42 hits, seven home runs, 17 RBIs, and 20 walks along with a .920 OPS and 166 wRC+.

“The Dodgers are in on Arozarena,” a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. “He would be a great fit.”

The 2021 AL Rookie of the Year is signed to an $8.1 million contract with two more years of arbitration eligibility.

The Dodgers’ other outfield trade target, according to Feinsand: Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who is slashing .265/.333/.456 with 123 wRC+ and a .789 OPS this month. He is signed for $15 million in 2025 in addition to $20 million club options for 2026 and 2027.

Ideally, Robert would come as a package deal with White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet. But, acquiring both targets would likely come with a large price tag.

The Dodgers have until Tuesday’s deadline to make a move.
