The Yankees got off to a hot start in Game 5, thanks to two home runs from Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the bottom of the first inning against Jack Flaherty.

Flaherty ended up going just 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits before being replaced by Anthony Banda.

The Dodgers offense struggled mightily through the first four innings, before the Yankees defense finally gave them some life against Gerrit Cole in the top of the fifth inning.

Kiké Hernández hit a leadoff single. Then, Aaron Judge dropped a routine fly ball, giving the Dodgers life. Anthony Volpe then made a throwing error, and the Dodgers had the bases loaded and nobody out.

Gavin Lux and Shohei Ohtani both struck out, leaving it up to Mookie Betts.

Betts hit a grounder to first base, but Cole didn’t cover the bag, and Betts was safe. Then, Freddie Freeman hit a two-run single, and Teoscar Hernández hit a two-run double, and just like that, the Dodgers and Yankees were tied at five apiece.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Yankees scored another run on Giancarlo Stanton’s sacrifice fly. Then, in the top of the eighth inning, the Dodgers offense came alive again.

Kiké Hernández and Tommy Edman singled, followed by a Will Smith walk to load the bases. Then, Gavin Lux and Mookie Betts each hit sacrifice flies, and the Dodgers had their first lead of the game at 7-6.

Blake Treinen, who already got four outs, came back in for the bottom of the eighth inning. Treinen got into trouble with two on and one out, and Dave Roberts came out of the bullpen to potentially take him out of the game.

However, Treinen convinced him to stay in, and then retired Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo to maintain the Dodgers’ 7-6 lead.

The Dodgers had traffic in the top of the ninth, but weren’t able to add an insurance run.

Then, Walker Buehler came into the game in the bottom of the ninth inning after pitching two days ago.

He retired the Yankees in order, and the Dodgers are now World Series champions.
