Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto Dominates New York in Yankee Stadium Debut
Yoshinobu Yamamoto just put together the best start of his young career.
Yamamoto went into New York to face the best team in Major League Baseball, and put on an absolute show.
Yamamoto went seven innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven. He didn’t allow a run on 106 pitches.
Yamamoto was at 94 pitches after six innings, and easily could have had his day done. However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts trusted him to go out for the seventh, and Yamamoto made his manager look good.
After giving up a one-out walk, Yamamoto sat at 105 pitches. However, Roberts never even got close to the top step of the dugout, and Yamamoto induced an inning-ending double play to complete seven shutout innings.
With this outing, Yamamoto’s season ERA is down to 3.00. After getting off to the rough start in Korea against the San Diego Padres, he’s settled down nicely, and now just put together the best start of his career against the league’s best team.
The Dodgers gave Yamamoto a 12-year, $325 million this offseason without ever throwing a pitch at the MLB level.
He just gave them the type of performance they paid big money for.
