Emmet Sheehan Starts Strong, Comes Out After 6th-Inning Rally

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan had a stellar performance against the Chicago White Sox in his start Sunday, though exited the game in a losing position.

Sheehan only allowed three earned runs in his outing, lasting 5+ innings while striking out eight batters. He had a fairly efficient outing until his last trip to the mound, throwing a total of 85 pitches.

The right-hander showed a stark improvement from his last outing, during which he only got through 1.1 innings pitched with 49 pitches while allowing two earned runs. The Dodgers didn’t provide much run support for Sheehan Sunday, scoring just once via a Freddie Freeman home run, but they’ll look to bounce back for a win.

How Did Emmet Sheehan’s Outing Unfold?

Similar to his last outing, Sheehan managed his way though the first inning efficiently, hurling just 13 pitches to get through a perfect first frame.

The White Sox got their first baserunner of the game in the following inning after Sheehan plunked Chase Meidroth, the batter who broke up Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s perfect game Saturday, but Sheehan left him stranded with his third strikeout of the afternoon.

The third inning went smoothly for Sheehan as well, as he sent the White Sox down in order while adding two more strikeouts to his total.

Chicago threatened once again in the fourth after a two-out double from Colson Montgomery, but Sheehan came through once again and got through the fourth with just 54 pitches thrown.

The first hiccup in Sheehan’s outing came after a strong fifth inning, when Antonacci capitalized on an elevated fastball and crushed it 415 feet over the right field fence. Sheehan continued to struggle for the remainder of his time in the game, allowing a single then a double to plate the White Sox’s second run of the game.

Jack Dreyer came in to relieve Sheehan after the double, but immediately allowed a homer to Montgomery and added an earned run to Sheehan’s tally.

On the season, Sheehan has a 4.76 ERA through 64.1 innings pitched. Sunday marked the third time this season he had struck out eight batters or more.
